Gregory's Touchdown Jesus Receives Reading in New York

in

The first public peek at Gregory's newest full-length play occurred May 4th when a formidable cast, including Matthew Lawler of The Rude Mechanicals, gathered to read it for an invited audience at a midtown studio.

More than two years in the making, Touchdown Jesus explores a timeless issue -- what you do in life when life is done with you -- through a subject ripped from the headlines.

The main characters suffer from football-related brain trauma, an issue that has recently received national attention.  These men wander through retirement with early-onset dementia, searching for meaning after the whistle blows, along the way encountering ghosts, demons, and angels.

Other performers: J. Richey Nash (Criminal Minds), Rob Skolits (1984), Heather Girardi (Pearl Theatre Co.), Lee Barton (Rock Out), and Tom Bartos (Kingdom of the Sun).

Though his play delves into the world of football, Gregory has assured the

Alabama Shakespeare Festival

that his play does not resemble, nor was it inspired by, ASF's hit play

Bear Country

, in which he starred.
